The Symbolism Behind Valencia's Caras Del Agua Pipes

The Caras del Agua (Cares d´aigua in Valenciano) are faces printed on the cast iron pipes that served as a channeling system for rainwater. However, these gutters carried something special, symbols drawn in the middle of the route, right in the part that communicates with the downspout or area closest to the ground. The faces not only served as a decorative and differentiating element of the pipes, but also had a special mission close to the heavenly: to drive away evil and drive away bad energies from the houses they protected.
